Nissan has been working on developing an even more efficient quick charger for Electric Vehicles (EVs) for quite some time. And, finally their time has come to launch the production-model charger.
Last week, Nissan unveiled their new EV quick charger. During the debut the Japanese automaker also announced their plans to bring the EV quick charger to market next month!
At first, Nissan quick chargers will only be available in Japan through Nissan parts suppliers. The Japanese automaker's primary objective is to help promote and encourage the continual development of the EV quick-charging infrastructure in Japan. The Japanese automaker plans to sell 5,000 new quick charger units in less than five years.
Wondering what the difference is between Nissan's currently available EV charger? The new quick charger is smaller, easier to install and starts well below the current model's suggested retail price of approximately 1.47 million yen, or roughly $19,123 USD.
And, one of the most noteworthy benefits of the all new Nissan EV quick charger is it's weather resistance. The new charger was specifically designed to be safely used in rainy weather as well as meet three distinct weather conditions, base, standard and cold. Other notable benefits include the EV quick charger's dedicated safety features, including monitoring against a potential short circuit and the charger's universal compatibility. Nissan's new charger is not only compatible with the LEAF, but also EVs manufactured by other automakers.
Even though the Nissan is initially only selling the EV quick charger in Japan, the Japanese automaker hasn't forgotten about EV drivers here in the United States. The charger is also expected to eventually make it to the United States. "Preparations are also underway for future sales of the new quick charger in the U.S. and European markets," shares Nissan, in a recent press release.
